Our Art Show, Ann is in Turquoise and Black.

   Last night was the opening of my two man show with my friend Ann Hardy at Southwestern Adventist University in Keene. ( I forgot my camera  so I had to take these with my phone. ) Ann brought a large collection of her newest paintings and I had 14 sculptures. I think Ann is best known for her still lifes, and she brought some of those, but many of these new paintings had wild animals as their subject matter, including deer, rabbits, and birds..

   The majority of my sculptures at the show were longhorns and horned toads including a longhorn cow and calf that I worked on as a demo at my show at Southwestern last year. I brought my Limousin bull sculpture to work on as my demo last night. I always have a lot of people come up who are interested in the process of creating bronze sculptures and last night was no exception.
   It is a tremendous honor being in a show with Ann. The show will be open Sunday - Friday until February 22. If you have a chance come by and see the show.

Two Man Show With Ann Hardy

   This is the invitation to the show that my friend Ann Hardy and I are having at Southwestern Adventist University. .I'd love for all my friends who can to come. The show will be in the Meadows Gallery in the Chan Shun Centennial Library.. The opening is Feb. 9th, 6:00 - 8:00. The show runs February 9th - 23rd. The address is 101 W. Magnolia, Keene, TX 76059.
    Ann Hardy is an amazing painter ( I have two of her paintings in my art collection ) and  I am very honored to be doing this show with her. I am really looking forward to seeing the oil paintings she brings. She paints a wide variety of subjects including still lifes, landscapes, and figurative works. I will have fourteen of my bronze sculptures in the show ranging in price from $300 to $2,700. They are all animals, except for a crucifix. I will also bring a sculpture in clay, that I will be sculpting as a demo.
     Last year I did this show with my friend Sheri Jones. We were both honored to have the University purchase our works for their permanent collection.They bought one of Sheri's beautiful floral paintings and my large  longhorn steer, Native Texan.

This is the first sculpture I ever sold. I will have one of them in the show at the Southwestern Adventist University at the end of the month. It was one of the most challenging pieces I've ever made. Usually I work from life or my own photos. To the best of my knowledge there aren't  any cape buffalos around here. My sister's neighbor, a big game hunter, had a head and some hooves that I used and I watched a lot of videos but I had a very hard time finding a back view. Thanks to the internet I finally found the images I needed. The neighbor really knew his cape buffalos and gave me great advice also. In the end I was pleased with the sculpture. The name Mbogo is the Swahili name for a cape buffalo.

This is one of the sculptures that I will have in my shows. It's also one of my newest pieces. I'd started it several years ago. I was inspired to create it for several reasons. First, because the horned toad or"horned frog" is the mascot of TCU where I graduated in 1988, second, it is the state reptile of Texas, and finally when I was a kid I had one as a pet but sadly they are very rare today. It just seemed like this was the time to finish it, and sure enough TCU went undefeated and went on to win the Rosebowl.

   March is going to be a very busy month. I have three shows, beginning March 2nd, I will be participating in the Texas Stampede at the Insight Gallery in Fredericksburg. I am really looking forward to this show as it will be my first year to participate in this event.  Many great artists from across the state will be in this show.  Next I will be participating in Art Reach at Christ Chapel for the fourth time on March 13th. This is a really nice local show. Finally, near the end of the month, starting on March 24th, I will be in a two man show with my very good friend and truly great artist Sheri Jones at the Meadows Gallery at the Southwestern Adventist University. I'm really looking forward to seeing Sheri's paintings. I especially admire the texture and beautiful colors in her work. You can check out her work at sheriart.blogspot.com.
   The sculpture above is one of the pieces from that show. This sculpture is inspired by Col. Charles Goodnight who in addition to being instrumental in the cattle industry was important in preserving the American bison from extinction. This sculpture represents Old Sikes,a sire of Colonel Goodnight's bison herd.
