Place of Peace

Place of Peace
8 x 10
oil on canvas
I painted in the cemetery today at Waxahachie. It is a beautiful and old place. Many of the graves in the older parts belong to people born in the early 1800s. I think old graveyards are very interesting and beautiful places. There is so much history connected with them and often the graves themselves are works of art. The graves are often testaments of faith of the departed and their families.

Farm Fresh

The Saturday farmers' market at Waxahachie, on the side
of the county courthouse, a great place to buy fresh
produce, delicious bakery goods and home made soaps.
Farm Fresh
8 x 10
oil on canvas
I did this painting yesterday at the quick draw at Waxahachie. It was so windy and I just wasn't in the mood to paint buildings so I bought a bundle of red onions, a container of yellow squash, and one of patty pan squash at the farmers market and set up a still life to paint. It was a nice change. My friend Sheri Jones bought some fresh flowers and carrots and created a very colorful still life also.

Spring Meadow

Spring Meadow
8 x 10
oil on canvas
SOLD
I spent most of the day at the Paint Historic Waxahachie paintout today. It was a very enjoyable day, but hot, 100, and windy. I did one painting  at the quick draw but I need to rephotograph it so I'll post it tomorrow. I had lunch with Steve Miller and Ted Clement and their wives and Olivet Hubler. Then we all went off to find locations to paint for the afternoon. This was my second painting of the day. Most of my friends did paintings of buildings or homes but I wanted to do a landscape so I found this field on the edge of town by the bike trails. I found some shade and went to work.

Somervell County Courthouse

Somervell County Courthouse
8 x 10
oil on canvas
$100
This Saturday I participated in a paintout in Glen Rose. It was a very foggy morning on the drive down but it turned out to be a great day for painting. Many  of my friends participated including Sheri Jones, Maryann Brummer, Sabine Higgins, Janice Weaver, Debob Jacob, Steve Miller, Chase Almond, Vickie Guthrie, and many others. We painted in an area around the square and along the river. Debob won first place, Chase won second, and Steve won third. Sheri sold two paintings. Glen Rose has so many painting opportunities and I really look forward to returning to paint there in the future.

Old Marksman

Old Marksman
6 x 8
oil on panel
not for sale
This is a painting I did of Marksman my old yellow lab. He was a truly super dog. I had him for over 15 years. He was the sort of dog that got along with all people, dogs and other animals. He was great to hunt with, fish with, camp with, and go to the lake or gulf with. I know I'll never have another dog like him. He was a great and loyal friend who will always be missed.

We had artists from all over the area including Fort Worth, Weatherford, Aledo, Grand Prairie, and five who drove all the way over from Dallas. The weather was great and a lot of really nice paintings were produced.

This was my last painting of the day at Prairie Fest.  It was a fairly simple painting, just about the composition of some big shapes, and the colors green and blue. This was my only painting of the day with no wildflowers.

Southwest Garden

Southwest Garden
8 x 10
oil on canvas
$150
I started this painting about two weeks ago in the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens. It was a great day for painting out. My friends Olivette Hubler, Linda Reedy, Cecelia Robertson, and Cece Turner painted also. We had lunch at the Gardens Restaurant and then I invited them over for dessert afterwards. I was not finished with this painting so I worked on it a bit more yesterday and did the last work on it today. I'm pretty pleased with it now.
