The Ducks at Watters Creek
This is the largest sculpture I have done so far. It is a mother duck followed by ten ducklings. The mother is around three feet tall and the ducklings are around 18 inches tall. They are at the Watters Creek retail resort in Allen, Texas. It was a fun project. The developers wanted to create a family friendly atmosphere with lots of public art. The ducks were designed to be large enough for children to sit on. Whenever I've been back to see them there are always people taking their childrens' photos on the ducks. It's really great seeing them being appreciated and enjoyed.

ReplyDeleteThese are wonderful! Remind me of the wonderful bronze ducks in the Boston Gardens, my kids always sat on them when we went up to the city. Just marvelous to do an installation enjoyed by all!
ReplyDeleteWOW..Doug!! I am SO impressed. Amazing job on these beauties. To think..all these people will be enjoying them in photos for years to come.
ReplyDeleteThanks Graziano, Anne, and Hilda. This has been the most rewarding project that I have done so far.
ReplyDeleteDoug, this so so cool! I love LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteI am absolutely crazy about these ducks. And very appreciative and honored to be on your blog list. I haven't figured out how to make one with thumbnails like that yet but I want to. Anyway, thank you so much! (do you go by Doug or Douglas?)

Just had to comment on your wonderful ducks. I meant to say something when you posted but neglected to follow through.
ReplyDeleteI think it's marvelous that they're big enough for a child to sit on, and I think it's equally marvelous that their scale still seems absolutely perfect in their setting. (i.e. One would never guess from a glance that they are oversized. They still fit the space beautifully.)
